First – WE LIFT HEAVY.
WE EAT TACOS.
Not everyone wants to compete in weightlifting. We get that.
Not everyone wants to wear a singlet. Agreed.
BUT, If you want to do a weightlifting meet with all the standards (minus the USAW membership), hang out with friends, eat tacos, and watch people lift some heavy ass weight, THIS IS THE MEET FOR YOU.
Join us March 7th, 2020 (03/07/2020) at CrossFit Bluegrass for Tacos and Totals.
We are limiting the meet to a total of 24 athletes, so get your registration in ASAP!
CrossFit Bluegrass member: $55
Non-member Registration: $65
What time do I need to arrive?
If you’re participating in the meet, weigh-ins begin at 10:15. Want more time to warm-up? We recommend you get there on the early side of that. There will be no weigh-ins after 10:45 am.
How is the meet formatted?
We will start with the first lifter at 11:00 am. Each lifter will be ordered based on their Opener (first lift weight), and then consecutive jumps. There will be a small break (8-10 min) between the final Snatch attempt and the first Clean and Jerk attempt. After the meet, awards will be given to “Best Overall Lifter” based on the bodyweight-to-lifting total ratio.
Do I need to wear a singlet?
No, but if it tickles your fancy, go for it.
Is the event kid-friendly?
Yes! This is a kid-friendly event. Especially because we hope to have parents participate! However, if you’ve never been to a weightlifting meet, it’s a VERY different environment than a CrossFit competition. As each lifter is preparing to lift, it is required that we have a QUIET room for them to focus and to ensure safety. After each lift and obviously, after the meet, cheering is encouraged!
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Nope! We welcome all ages, though we will require a parent or guardian to be present & sign the waiver for any athlete under the age of 18.
What does an “unsanctioned” meet mean?
It means that you don’t have to be a USAW member to participate. You get to try a weightlifting meet without the pressure of having your name and totals on the record books and see for yourself if you like it! There’s also no requirement to wear a singlet.
What if I don’t like tacos?
1. No one’s going to force it down your throat. 2. Bring whatever you’d like to eat and we’ll still be happy to have you!
I don’t know what a weightlifting meet is, or what I should lift if I was going to do it –
You’re in luck! The KBC coaches (at CFBG) are putting on a “how-to approach a meet” shindig on Sunday, February 16th to go over the format, rules, and scoring for a meet. If you can’t make that, contact us and one of the coaches will answer any and all of your questions!
Is it worth the money?
Let’s look at what you get by participating:
-Hangtime with friends.
-Opportunity to lift heavy with guidance.
-Badass Photos of you lifting.
-Tacos and Totals T-Shirt
Right. Or you could spend $30 on two movie tickets.
Fair point? Fair point.
